If I had known then what I know now, we would have embarked on our journey to conceive on our honeymoon! After just over a year of trying to fall pregnant we decided to seek help from the experts, where it was discovered that I had polycystic ovaries. We were advised that the best way forward would to have a minor procedure, Lapascopic Drilling, to remove them, which would highly increase our chances of falling pregnant. Unfortunately this still didn't have a positive outcome and another distressing year later there was still no news. As time went by it was becoming increasingly harder to put on a brave face and pretend that all was well, especially when so many of our friends were pregnant for the first or second time. Fortunately I have a wonderful, kind and supportive husband who really was my rock during such a hard period. We were advised that our best option would be IVF. Our first attempt resulted in a positive, but cruelly I miscarried at six weeks. Our second attempt two months later failed. For our third attempt we decided that we need time out, both emotionally and physically, and would take a six-month break…this was one of the best decisions we made! In September 2003 a month after my second failed IVF we went to Queen's Park Day where I found the fabulous, talented girls from Oeuf. The whole set-up was extremely welcoming and the leaflets about infertility a welcome relief, as in my experience, I hadn’t come across such an open attitude to infertility. A week later I was booked in for my first acupuncture treatment with Mel. I was extremely sceptical, especially with my fear of needles; however, I was willing to try absolutely anything. Mel immediately put me at ease and we discussed all aspects of my life along with my medical history. The needles were placed into relevant pressure points and I can honestly say I hardly felt a thing! After the first treatment I was hooked and started going on a weekly basis. The sessions gave me a chance to let off steam about my everyday life, relax with the needles and then virtually float out of the therapy room! Four months after I began my treatment at Oeuf, I embarked on my third IVF. I felt ready both physically and emotionally. IVF is a rollercoaster and Mel certainly helped me remain calm and focused during the treatment. I am absolutely delighted to say that it was third time lucky and I was finally pregnant! I continued to visit Oeuf throughout my whole pregnancy and I am convinced that Oeuf played a huge role in a successful, relaxed and easy pregnancy. My darling Jake was born on October 23rd 2004 and to say that he has changed my life completely would be an understatement. My love for him is overwhelming and I will be forever grateful to Oeuf and the wonderful, unique services they provide in helping my dream come true. |
